|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 11:00 am on Friday, repeating until November 11, 2022

In the first session: We’ll discuss how to prepare for basic field recordings using NPR standard reporter kits. You’ll learn how to select and use the appropriate microphone for different environments. We will talk about how to engage with the public and how to record them in the field as well as how to gather sound for storytelling and how to protect your equipment in the field. Finally, participants will record sound for a 60 second postcard (A self-narrated segment) that tells a distinct story. Afterwards they will create a clipboard that highlights their best interviews and sounds. This session happens in nearly all weather conditions.

This session is meant for radio reporters, producers, and editors who understand the basics of MTE, NewsFlex, writing tape & copy, and/or news spots.
