Christopher Smith is the senior vice president of government and public affairs at Cheniere Energy. He was a managing partner at Paladin LLC, and a Baker Institute Advisory Board Fellow in Energy Studies at Rice University. He previously served as the assistant secretary for fossil energy at the U.S. Department of Energy. During his time at the DOE, Smith oversaw the department’s fossil energy research and development program (coal, oil and natural gas), the National Energy Technology Laboratory, and the natural gas regulatory process.
Smith writes about carbon markets and energy transitions and how policy can address concerns of local communities adversely affected by shifts in energy-use patterns.
